A note from the taxi drivers...

So I wuz uh given some random guy off the street a ride, right, that's what I do, give taxi rides and stuff.  Anyhoo, this guy wuz like 12 or something, and he uh wanted me to give him a ride to somewheres and then changed his mind.  I didn't really care, but has to go and make a big fuss about the ducks, right?  I hate them idiots like that who make a big deal of things that don't even matter.  I mean, this is a nice example of what I hate.  I don't really give a rip about all that stuff that doesn't make no difference.  I mean all that really matters is I wanna survive, right, so I drive a cab around so I can eat some food and get a good, comfortable sleep.  Why should I worry about some ducks?

So I was driving my cab.  Of course I had to have another one of those guys who asks me questions all the time, stupid questions that are obvious, or... actually, questions that are the wrong questions.  Why would you like to know about the ducks (who cares) when you already have the answers to a better question-- what happens to the fish.  You see, my father always told me about how the fish would freeze along with the ice.  I was all intrigued when I was a tyke, but now it's just one of those facts that I know.  All you need to know is the facts.  Why do people have to get so interested in something that is just a nice fact?

  1. Rachel great description of a taxi driver. I pictured a taxi driver from new york saying this whole thing. But i think the real question in this is what do the ducks represent to Holden? and why does he always bring them up when there is nothing else to talk about? is it to break the ice with the taxi driver or what?

  3. I really like your idea! I love how you wrote from a different character's perspective! I think it shows a lot about Holden in a new and different way, even though the things we already know, they are things said in a new light. A lot of people are put off at/from Holden. I think that this is a good "example" of how people take Holden the wrong way when he, in this instance, is just curious.
